Another busy day! The time we leave has been starting to get suspiciously earlier every day. Today we started with a University tour at TKNU. It was a nice school and I was impressed with how much effort they put into making us feel welcome. There were posters, lectures and even a delightful lunch planned for us. We got to sit through an MBA lecture on brand marketing. It’s fascinating to see the small differences between the cultures, but overall it was mostly the same stuff we learn in the US. After the lecture we got to sit through a presentation from Asus, a computer company. I had never heard of them before, but apparently it’s a growing company who has won about 8 awards. I appreciated that the class and presentation were given in English. Lunch consisted of a buffet style set up piled high with yummy food. I have to admit my favorite was the ham sandwiches. I’m usually into trying the culture’s food, but I have to say I don’t care for Taiwanese food very much. The teas are amazing, but the food not so much.
We left the University and headed to KPMG for a company tour. The office is located in the 101 building which was the tallest building in the world until last year. It has 101 floors and an amazing view. Helicopters even fly lower than the 68th floor where KPMG was. The company gave us a wonderful presentation that was very educational about accounting and their different business relations. We got to see their break room where there was a dance room, massage chairs and even a person giving the workers massages. I wanted to hand in my resume right then and there!
At the bottom of the 101 building was a mall where we had lunch. I was excited to see a Mos Burger (a popular Japanese burger joint). We didn’t do much because we are leaving in the morning and had to pack. I had a ton of laundry to do which was an adventure all on its own. It took more than 3 hours! I’ve never used powered soap before and trying to read the Chinese directions was very difficult. It cost about $10 US to do my laundry and the silly dryer wouldn’t get anything dry. I put them through three times and they are still super wet…yay for packing wet clothes. We had McDonald delivered to the hotel (yes, you read that right) and are now all trying to catch up on our blogs. I’m glad I’ve been keeping up with mine because some people haven’t even started yet.
